Treasury, Senate approve Isiolo County partnership with NGO for provision of health services

Residents of Isiolo County can now breathe a sigh of relief after the Senate and National Treasury Okayed the deal between the devolved unit and Living Goods for the provision of healthcare services.

This brings to an end a protracted battle between a section of residents and leaders led by Senator Fatuma Dullo who had sought to stop the programme until certain issues were ironed out.

In a petition which has since been withdrawn, three residents of Isiolo County sought orders to stop the programme noting that the agreement exposed public service to unregulated capture by a private entity and poses a public health risk.

In a statement, Treasury CS Henry Rotich gave the deal a clean bill of health noting that concerns raised over the Public Finance Management in rolling out the projects had been amicably addressed.

“We’ve analyzed the draft agreement between the county government of Isiolo and Living Goods Limited and the Public Finance Management (Isiolo County Community Health Services Fund) Regulations, 2019. The issues have been sorted out to give the county the go-ahead to implement the programme,” Rotich said.

With the green light, the County administration can now move forward with the kSh. 345 million four-year deal that will see residents get high-quality healthcare services.
