Residents cautioned against taking law into their hands

Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has appealed to residents to use the laid down legal processes in settling disputes.

Speaking during the burial of slain Kamaindi location chief, Governor Njuki said the law was clear on dispute resolution and those feeling aggrieved should stick the the processes in seeking justice.

“I want to urge residents of Tharaka Nithi to use the laid down legal mechanisms in settling dispute instead of taking the law into their own hands” Governor Njuki said.

The County boss further called on residents who had fled the area following the deployment of the General Service Unit (GSU) to the area to track down the suspects in the murder of the chief and Chuka OCS Joseph Kinyua to return home and assured them that no innocent person will be victimized.

Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Beverly Opwora called on residents with information on the killing of the chief to volunteer the information to the authorities.

“I am appealing to anyone with information on the chief’s murder to report to the nearest police station and help with investigations” Ms. Opwora said.

The  Chief  was killed on April 30 at his brother’s home where he had gone to solve a dispute between the chief’s brother who had detained some goats belonging to a villager.

Nine suspects have so far been arraigned in court over the murders and are be expected to take plea on May 23rd.
