Manyatta constituency MP Gitonga Mukunji has urged Water CS Alice Wahome to revoke a contract in his constituency for being extremely lazy.

Mukunji said it is shameful for the contractor to be on-site from 2020 to date but he has nothing to show.

He said that the ministry was lenient enough to give the site contractor two extension periods to finish the project in vain.

He claimed that the Lower Githegi contractor had siphoned money meant for the project, taken retention, and ran away.

“ Why should we give contracts to China when we have youths who can perform the same tasks? We must improve and maintain a good reputation by doing the right thing and not doing a shoddy job,” he said.

Mukunji who spoke after meeting officials of the 24 water projects in Manyatta Constituency said he aims to improve water infrastructure for some projects established in the early 90s.

He said there would be an expansion of the projects through lobbying for water pipes to serve more people.

Mukunji said his office will seek support from the government for funding our irrigation projects in Manyatta through the Small Holder Farmer Irrigation Programme to ensure adequate irrigation and safe drinking water for our people.

The Itabua Muthatare water project will cost Sh200 million has also stalled.

Mukunji gave a one-week ultimatum to resume construction of the Itabua Muthatari and Kithimu irrigation water Projects.

“The contract was issued in 2020 and he (the contractor) has delayed the completion of the project at the expense of our people,” Mukunji said.
