Esther Hirbe Dambe started playing volleyball at Sasura Girls High School in Marsabit County. Since she started playing for her school they reached the regional levels in school championships. She started playing the game out of the love she possessed for volleyball.
Whenever Esther Hirbe Dambe saw volleyball team training she would have that inner drive to join them. Playing volleyball has given her a lot of exposure which includes visiting many parts of the Country. Esther Hirbe Dambe played for the Marsabit County volleyball team for 3 years.
She plays the position of a booster (setter). Apart from being a passionate volleyball player, she is a trained teacher. While studying at college she played volleyball as a co-curricular activity. For her, there was adequate time to study and time to practice volleyball after classes. They practiced every day after classes to improve their skills while enjoying at the same time.
Esther Hirbe Dambe is currently a teacher at Mwangaza Primary School in Marsabit. The role model teacher is also the volleyball coach of the school. She is both a trained volleyball coach and a referee. She honed her volleyball skills by attending a volleyball clinic at Moi Girls Marsabit by instructor John Odundo.
The certification has enabled her to be more professional in coaching and nurturing the talents of her players at the grassroots level.
The challenges faced in the growth of volleyball in Marsabit include the discouragement of girls by parents to participate in sports since it is perceived to be for men only. Esther Hirbe Dambe also points out that there are minimum competitions to participate in. She says the last time she was involved in a competitive championship was way back in 2019.
