The County Government of Isiolo recently launched a feeding program for ECDE learners.
Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo said that the program is to target 164 ECDE centers and will only last for this second term, and all the 10 wards in the county are to benefit from it.
The food items donated include rice, beans, and cooking oil.
The director of ECDE Galgallo Ali praised the efforts to ensure the children are supported.
He said that the feeding program will contribute to the children transitioning to the primary level.
The program is in line with the governor’s goal of ensuring ECDE pupils are kept in school.
The Governor said that the provision of the food will improve child health and development, play, and participation, and also will have a positive impact on literacy levels in the county.
The CECM however did not disclose how much was spent on the programme.
In the education sector in the county still, more than 15000 students are to receive bursary funds.
In March this year, Guyo launched the county’s bursary and scholarship program worth 35 million for beneficiaries across the county.
School dropouts in the county have increased over the years due to issues like culture and the drought.
The county, in turn, requested that school principals not send students home for fees as the parent’s sources of income have been affected by the drought.
