Residents of Ngaremara and other parts of Isiolo County are happy courtesy of the progress of a center initiated by a congregation of sisters, friends, and other stakeholders in the area.
The Holy Angels Home for the Elders which was started by the religious team a few years ago to take care of the vulnerable elders and children in the local catchment area is at an advanced stage.
Through donations from a few friends and some donors, the center has successfully completed and commissioned a solar-powered borehole and a nursery school to take care of the early childhood development of the children from the neighboring community.
Recently an ECDE block was officially opened by the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Kenya Kana Kananathan who was accompanied by members of several families from Sri Lanka who are supporting the project.
The ambassador expressed his joy for witnessing the positive impact that the center has brought to members of the Ngaremara community who have been living in abject poverty and lacked basic necessities like access to good basic education for their children.
The chairman of the founder committee Mr. Peter Kaluai told those present that the dream of having a centre started way back in 2018 when Sister Marie Therese told them of the importance of saving the hundreds of elders from harsh weather and hunger by having a centre for them.
“This initiative was started by a team that comprised seven families who used to visit Sister Marie Therese at St Mary’s College Sunday afternoons.
“When the sister shared her dream with them, they immediately supported her. I was picked as the chairman of the team. I came here to express my joy and support for this important project. ‘Kaluai told The Eastern Newspaper.
Sister Marie Therese thanked the founder committee members for donating their personal money and other resources to support the project. She added that other donors came on board later and offered huge support in the form of funding the structures like the school, borehole, and others, it is the hand of God that is working, and I am excited to see this project progressing well. Sis Marie added.
