Protests won’t lower the cost of living, former Meru Governor Kiraitu tells opposition

Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has said that respect and ample time is paramount to all elected leaders to fulfill their pledges to electorates.

Kiraitu who spoke at Ndagone in Abogeta, South Imenti during an Education day, advised politicians to reduce infighting and wrangling in order to realize development for the people.

He asked those thinking they will give President William Ruto and Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza sleepless nights to think otherwise and allow them time to implement their manifesto.

Kiraitu said that the high cost of living won’t come down through protests noting that President Ruto’s administration has already laid down plans and strategies to revive the economy.

“I have listened to what Azimio leaders on what they are saying but they have no solution to challenges facing Kenyans. They are in the dark,” Kiraitu said.

Kiraitu declared he will not return to active politics after being retired by the voters in August 2022.

“You gave me the best retirement package which is common to politicians and I have agreed. If I was a Primary school teacher and worked for 30 consecutive years, won’t I have retired long ago? I am not angry about losing the seat at all. And I am grateful to you all for electing me throughout the years,” Kiraitu said.

The Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya said noise can’t make any growth adding that problems will always be there and that any leader will go home one day and challenges are only reduced, they will never fail to be there as long as people live.

Kiraitu said Kenyans have their marking schemes ready for 2027 and distracting elected leaders is a waste of time which may even delay developments.

“The one who was elected as my predecessor should be given ample time to carry out her mandate as elected rather than frequent wrangles over power. Residents will rate her performance as they did for me whereby I failed. If people won’t be contented with her developments they will show her the door as they did me. There’s no need for unnecessary noise. This should be the same case for Ruto,” Kiraitu said.
