As the county government, administration, village elders, and other local authorities gear towards the ban of illicit brew in the county, the sellers are using new ways to transport and sell the brew to their customers.

Speaking to the press, Governor Muthomi Njuki highlighted that the people have started using new tricks like using thermo flasks, juice cans, and bottles to store illegal alcohol in hotels and other recreation centers others pretending to be tea.

Use of the term; outside catering’ by the alcohol sellers to sell illicit brews and alcohol outside the authorized time and places.

Others go to the furthest places of natural forests to store the brew by hiding the containers on top of trees, and on the hilltops.

Another inventory is the use of knapsack sprayers pretending to be going to their farms instead they sell illicit brew in them. He urged residents to be mindful of their health because such a thing stores chemicals used for spraying crops and therefore consuming such kind of alcohol might endanger their health.

Digging large and deep holes underground and storing large tanks and therefore cementing the area well so that during the police operation they go unnoticed.

People crossing to other counties and therefore in their defense they say that they have not bought or drunk the brew within the county.

“Those claiming that they have been drinking in other counties after they have been arrested by the police, let them know that all counties are operating under the same law and they are all fighting against the illicit brew. So you will be arrested and you will be taken to court” Governor Muthomi Njuki added.

As the campaign is getting tougher and worse, bars like Palace Inn bar in Marimanti market in Tharaka South, have been in the limelight for their arrogance to comply with the law and rules of operation therefore the license has been revoked, and the bar.

He added that people are selling animal feeds to the brewers using the backdoor and this is what is bringing a strain between the authority and the operation of fighting illicit brew.

“We are gearing towards eliminating this second and third-generation alcohol and ensuring that people remain sober around the county. This operation should not be left to the police and the area managers only. Let’s all be vigilant.” Wesley Koech highlighted.

County Commissioner Wesley Koech assured the people of Tharaka Nitti that the fruits of this campaign are evident as of the moment because families are being united because husbands and sons have gone back to their homes due to the closure of the dens and illegal selling places.

He emphasized that the media should enforce the laws and regulations by working together with the community and the authority. He urged everybody to be on the lookout for those secret suppliers and dens that are selling these illicit brews and ensure that they report immediately to the area managers and the police.

According to the rules and regulations set by the alcoholic act and liquor licensing board, there are set times that all bars should operate whereas others are operating during illegal hours and claiming to be under the protection of certain authorities.

Community Health Volunteers (CHVS) and Area managers in places like the Kithino location in Chiakariga Sub-county and Mwerera sub-location in Tharaka South sub-county for being illicit brew-free zones.
