Buuri location chief Mamira John confirmed the incident and said the herder’s body parts like hands were missing adding that the deceased was probably killed by bandits before being attacked by hyenas.
“We suspect the deceased was first killed by bandits before being eaten by hyenas. A total of 15 goats, several cows, and donkeys are still missing,” the chief said.
Atuma, who hailed from Lailuba village in Tigania West had taken his livestock for grazing as usual but failed to return to his home in the evening.
The search for the missing herder came to an end on Tuesday when the family recovered lower and internal body parts scattered in the Marindi forest.
Mamira pleaded with herders from the region to stop grazing their livestock along the Isiolo-Meu grazing zones alone as they are prone to insecurity.
His relatives identified the clothes he was wearing and his grazing stick when he left home. The remains of the deceased have been moved to Nyambene mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
