Isiolo leaders blame police of laxity following ethnic clashes, call for swift action

Leaders from Isiolo County have accused the police of laxity in dealing with the security situation in the area and called on Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to take action.

Led by Governor Mohammed Kuti, the leaders accused the police of presiding over destruction of property and loss of lives following clashes between two communities in Modogashe along the Isiolo-Garissa border.

The County boss now wants the National Government to intervene and calm tension among the locals following heightened fresh ethnic clashes adding that members of the communities were now living in fear of fresh attacks.

Isiolo woman representative Rehema Jaldesa blamed the clashes on the protracted border row between the counties of Isiolo and Garissa and called for quick interventions from the National Government.

“I urge the National government to move with speed to intervene the current stalemate and resolve the boundary dispute to avoid further conflicts.” Ms Jaldesa said.

Her sentiments were echoed by Isiolo South MP Abdi Koropu and his Isiolo North counterpart Hassan Odha who called for the fast tracking of the demarcation process.

They further urged the Interior CS to launch investigations into a section of police officers accused of unfairness in execution of their duties and called for the deployment of more security officers to the volatile area.
