The construction of the Rigrig steel deck bridge by the Samburu county government’s department of transport, roads and public works across the Ngeny River at the Wamba North ward in Samburu East is now complete.
The Samburu County’s Executive Committee Member for transport, roads and public works Jonathan Leisen confirmed the bridge project is complete and added that the County Government will soon roll out the road construction works linking the various areas in the hinterlands serviced by the Rigrig Bridge.
For decades now, crossing the Ngeny River more so during rainy seasons has remained to be a dangerous undertaking and a daunting task for the residents and motorists but all is now set for better days ahead for the users of this public utility.
The bridge is also strategic in linking the Samburu North and East sub counties with roads linking to areas as far as Latakweny and Baragoi reducing distances covered on journeys to various locations and saving the road users from inconveniences caused by flooding rivers in the region.
Loolkuniyani market, the largest livestock market in northern Kenya also stands to benefit from the infrastructural works linked to the Rigrig Bridge.
“With such projects, the interior parts of our county will further be opened up to the rest of the country, strengthening and attracting investments in various circles”. County executive committee member Jonathan Leisen added.
