The County Government of Meru has revealed plans to have the Meru level five hospital elevated to level six status.
Speaking during the launch of Meru County Health Strategic and Investment plan that aims at improving service delivery and management in hospitals, health centres and dispensaries, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi revealed plans to elevate the Meru level 5 hospital and turn it into a parastatal.
“We are in the process of upgrading the Level-5 to Level-6 and transform it into a Parastatal. Some of the modern facilities and equipment that we are installing and modernizing at the hospital are an ICU, Cancer Unit.” Murungi said.
Kiraitu noted that the plan launched will guide a structured framework in response to various health issues management in the County healthcare sector and is meant to inform policy formulation for resource mobilization and allocation by the County Government of Meru, the National Government and other implementation partners across the county.
The Governor cautioned unscrupulous county employees involved in the theft of drugs from public facilities warning of dire consequences.
“Let me also issue a stern warning to some of our unscrupulous staff abetting theft of our drugs in our health facilities. Such drug cartels will not be tolerated. We have the capacity to burst these cartels.” He added.
He called on residents to embrace family planning and urged the National Council for Population and Development to spearhead the campaign of encouraging Kenyans to plan their families because it is a critical success factor in socio-economic transformation of the society.
