Leaders from Mount Kenya have called for unity in the region ahead of the 2022 polls.
Led by Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri, the leaders called on residents of Mt Kenya to shun divisive politics at the expense of the regions development.
Speaking when he presided over a funds drive at St John AIPCA Kiborione in Buuri. Kiunjuri said there was need for the region to unite and claim their share of the national development cake.
The CS lamented that the recent divisions in the region have stalled the development agenda of the region and denied the local residents a united voice with leaders torn between the “Kieleweke” and “tanga tanga” factions.
Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi noted that the region will support a candidate based on their development agenda and the interest of the Mt Kenya People.
“Mt Kenya region will support a candidate after a carefully analysing who among them eying the top seat in 2022 has the interest of our people at heart.” Governor Murungi said.
Kiraitu added that the region had been sidelined in terms of development noting that other regions were enjoying mega infrastructure projects and warned that the region will only vote for leaders who offer substantial development.
Chuka Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene called on leaders to spearhead unity talks in the region to ensure that the region has a stake in the next government sentiments that were echoed by Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri who noted that the region deserved a piece of the national cake.
