Meru county commissioner Fred Ndunga has issued a stern warning against muggers and pickpockets stealing valuables from innocent residents.
Residents within towns and markets have been complaining over increased criminal activities whereas police had done little to curb the menace.
While issuing a toll-free number, Ndunga assured Meru residents of adequate security and frequent police patrols this festive season.
“Give us timely and accurate information and not lies or propaganda only because you hate your neighbor. Mulika uhalifu by calling the 988 toll-free number. We can’t have police officers in every home or village and residents should not hide criminals but avail information. No one should take the law into their hands but rather report them to your nearest police post,” Ndunga said during the 59th Jamhuri day at Nkubu, South Imenti, Meru.
Ndunga noted that Bhang, illicit brews, second-generation liquor, and others have destroyed many potential youths in Meru.
“They have destroyed many youths in the County and we urge them to stop. All licensed premises should not proceed for extra time as stipulated by the law. Bhang and illicit brews should not be manufactured in the guise of holiday celebrations. The president has ordered all security agencies including chiefs and commissioners to destroy all illicit brew and second-generation liquor. Officers must enforce the law and all those that do not have licenses must be closed,” Ndunga said.
Ndunga said no single student who had registered for the national exams should be denied a chance to sit for the tests.
“Our children sitting for exams needs humble time without any interference,” he said.
