CS Wamalwa urges schools to accept food for fees

Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa has called on teachers in areas experiencing drought to adopt food for fees program as a way of dealing with the current situation instead of sending learners home.

The CS who was in Isiolo County where he distributed relief food said the program had worked in the past and should be adopted to cater for students fees and lunch charges as a way of mitigating the effects of drought.

Isiolo North MP Hassan Oda called on the government to take decisive steps towards addressing the lack of water in the area adding that a number of schools in the area risk closure due to water shortage.

On his part Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti said the county had been reliant on relief food for far too long and his administration was keen on changing that narrative through the construction of dams aimed at providing water for irrigation.

“The tendency of relief food dependency in the region should be a thing of the past as my government will be partnering with the national government and other development partners in the construction of dams and about 500 farmers will benefit.” Governor Kuti said.
