Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali has signed a charter to govern the operations of Marsabit municipality.
The charter is leading the establishment of Marsabit municipality that will be run by a board and municipality manager.
The Municipality will be an agent of the county with mandate and powers to deliver services within their jurisdiction to the residents for and on behalf of the County Government.
Governor Ali appreciated the role played by his County Assembly in approving the charter saying the move will improve and enhance the delivery of adequate clean and affordable water and sanitation, good schools, improvement of Urban roads within municipality and health facilities to attract more investors who will establish businesses in the town thereby providing employment and stimulating the growth of economy
The Governor further directed the Department of Urban Development to initiate the due process that will elevate Moyale town to Municipality level pursuant to the urban areas and cities Act so as to offer residents better services.
Ali was optimistic that under the new status, avenues of town management will be bolstered to effectively respond to the residents’ expectations.
The county chief lamented deteriorating security in the county and appealed to the security apparatus to make more enhanced patrols and take decisive action against elements that undermine peace and security in the county.
