Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, South Imenti MP Kathuri Murungi, and Meru Municipality MCA Elias Murega were the big winners in the Mizani Africa Awards recently.
The awards, given out to leaders who had displayed outstanding performance in their areas of jurisdiction, were held in Nairobi, with Governor Njuki topping the list in the governors’ category.
Njuki was named the best performing governor in the country in a performance index done by Mizani Africa, as Kirinyaga’s Anne Waiguru bagged the second position while Stephen Sang of Nandi County was third.
Mr. Kathuri, popularly referred to as “Kamashinani” emerged as the best legislator in the county as Murega was placed 17th out of more than 1, 000 MCAs in Kenya to bag the Ward Representatives category.
Kathuri, who earned the Top Score Award due to the utilization of the National Government-Constituency Development Fund, was not only ranked first in Meru but also in the eastern region.
Murega, one of the most vocal MCAs in the Meru Assembly who has a penchant for provocative contributions as he agitates for residents’ rights to development projects, emerged 17th nationally and top in the eastern region for representation and oversight work.
Addressing governors, MPs, MCAs, and other leaders at the award ceremony in a Nairobi hotel, Murega said it was all about service delivery.
He said leadership was about collective responsibility and leaders did not have to fight as they execute their different mandates.
