The County Government of Tharaka Nithi has commissioned 1,000 Community Health Workers (CHWs) following the successful completion of training in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society.
Speaking during a colorful event in Tharaka Nithi graced by KRCS Sec Gen Abbas Gullet, Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki said the CHWs will deployed in various parts of the County as the country gears towards the realization of the Universal Health Coverage.
Governor Njuki noted that this will help in the strengthening of primary health care (PHC) as the most inclusive, effective and efficient approach to enhance people’s physical and mental health, as well as social well-being.
“The roll out of the CHWs is part of the universal healthcare programme, ‘Level One’. The CHWs will be deployed all over the county and will work towards promoting healthcare. We will have CHW for every 25 households.” Governor Muthomi Njuki said.
KRCS Secretary General hailed the partnership adding that Primary Health Care is the cornerstone of a sustainable health system for Universal Health Coverage and health-related Sustainable Development Goals.
He called on the Community workers to be honest and committed to service delivery.
The CHWs will be tasked with among other things carry out general data collection, monitoring of patients, nutrition, registration of births and deaths and educating the public on healthy lifestyles.
