The eastern region did not perform very well in the last years Kenya certificate of primary education with counties like Isiolo, Marsabit, and Samburu missing in the top 100 candidates in the country
Tharaka Nithi produced the best two candidates from the region where Wesonga Nanzala scored 432 markets followed by her classmate Joy Kiogora at PCEA Chogoria Girls boarding primary school who scored 429 marks. The famous Fred’s Academy in Meru produced the best candidate in the county, Jeff Mutugi who scored 428 marks in the 2021 KCPE.
Speaking to The Eastern Newspaper, Fred’s Academy director Fredrick Mutwiri observed that thus years national exams were greatly affected by the Corona Virus pandemic that forced both the teachers and learners to a new online way of doing school work.
‘I thank God for once again enabling us to continue shining in the national exams, we have produced the best candidate in the county a position that we are glad to hold. I thank all stakeholders who include parents, teachers, and the government for working closely with our school at this time when the education sector is faced with numerous challenges’ Mutwiri said.
In the neighboring Gichunge primary school, Claudia Kinya topped by scoring 404 marks, becoming the best student in all public schools in Meru County. Kinya said one of her biggest challenges was the lack of reliable internet to access learning material that was availed online as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic.
‘Even though I did not have access to the internet, I summoned up courage and started studying on my own and by mid-May, I had already covered the syllabus’ Kinya said. Her father Mr. Ernest Kithinji, who is the headteacher of the school, commended her daughter for the good performance saying her victory had brought pride in the school and the neighboring community.
‘My daughter joined this school in 2018, she has been performing well and we expected good results but being the top student in public schools came as a good surprise, we thank God for everything, Kithinji said.
In Embu County, Ann Nekesa of St Petroc Premier School topped in the county after scoring 409 marks. The Tenri primary produced most of the students who scored above 400 marks in the county. Both Sam Ndaka and Brian Kang’ethe from the school scored 407 marks hence raised the flag of the county even further.
The best 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidate in Marsabit County came from Little Angels Academy, a private school in Saku Constituency.
The 14-year-old girl, Dawe Adan Wache scored 406 marks to lead the park of the 5,469 candidates who sat for the examination in the county.
The brilliant girl scored distinctions in all subjects including mathematics which she managed a straight-A with 80 marks.
A jovial Dawe attributed her success to hard work, discipline, and support from teachers and parents.
In Isiolo County, Eyanae Ashiki Casimir of Loreto primary school in Isiolo scored 416 marks hence led the county in 2020 KCPE. There was jubilation at the private school as a result of the good performance.
The candidates said that the environment under which they sat for their exams was challenging because the guidelines were too strict while everybody feared contracting the Corona Virus.
