CS Munya denies plot to eliminate DP Ruto

CS Munya denies plot to eliminate DP Ruto
June 24, 2019 Eastern Newspaper

Four Cabinet Secretaries from the Mount Kenya region have been grilled by detectives at the DCI headquarters over an alleged secret meeting to plot on eliminating the Deputy President William Ruto.

Trade & Industrialization CS Peter Munya, Health CS Sicily Kariuki, ICT CS Joe Mucheru, and Transport CS James Macharia were summoned to record statements over an alleged secret meeting that took place at the La Mada Hotel on May 14 to plot against the DP.

The quartet had been mentioned in a letter circulating in social media that could not be verified to have attended the said meeting to plot against the DP’s 2022 presidential bid.

However, CS Munya has refuted the claims terming them as wild and unsubstantiated and that there was no such plot adding that they have freedom of association noting that even the letter from which the allegations stemmed from could not be authenticated.

Munya who is alleged to have been chairing the meetings confirmed that they indeed have been holding meetings but only discuss development matters concerning Mount Kenya region.

Speaking at the DCI headquarters, CS Munya added that they were summoned after police confirmed that DP William Ruto made a call claiming that there are plans to kill him but questioned why the DP had not yet recorded a statement on the matter saying the allegations were aimed at portraying them in a bad light.

“The DP has not recorded any statement. Standard procedure is that if someone makes an allegation of that nature then that person is required by law to record a statement. The DP has made unsubstantiated and wild allegations and this is meant to injure our reputation as law-abiding citizens” CS Munya said.
