Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani has this afternoon presided over the launch of the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) dubbed Huduma Namba in Marsabit County.
This follows the national rollout presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta last week in Masii, Machakos County.
Speaking during the launch, CS Yatani moved to dispel doubts on Huduma namba noting that it will not invalidate other national registration processes but will instead consolidate them in one digital wallet.
“The Huduma Namba is a useful tool for the government to use in national planning, social services, project resource allocation and even project infrastructure.” Said CS Yatani.
He noted that Huduma Namba is aimed at enhancing the speed and efficiency of service delivery to all citizens and aliens residing in the country.
“NIIMS will make service delivery efficient across the country as it integrates data spread in different government agencies into a single identity” The CS said.
He called on residents to turn up in large numbers and register.
Marsabit Governor Mahammud Ali on his part challenged the government to extend the registration period to enable residents from Marsabit who are battling the effects of drought to register.
“We are facing a serious drought. Our pastoralist communities are migrating with their livestock to far flung areas in search of pasture and water. I urge the National Government to extend the Huduma Namba period of registration so that all our people get captured.” Governor Ali said.
