Joy as Prof Erastus Njoka Diplomacy Alumnus Grants launched
Chuka University was chattered as the ninth public university by former President Mwai Kibaki for more than twelve years is continuing to scale the heights of education and impact positively to the well-being of society.
Despite the effect of the Corona Virus, the university has struggled to continue offering high-quality education and participate in many corporate social responsibility activities in Tharaka Nithi County and other parts of Kenya.
Recently, the university held its 8th graduation ceremony where 3,195 Certificate, Diploma, Undergraduate and Postgraduate students were awarded their certificates in various courses. The graduation ceremony was held at the university graduation pavilion at the main campus at Ndagani involved only a section of graduands, members of staff, and guests as a result of the ministry of health COVID 19 prevention protocols.
Speaking at the event the Chuka University Alumni Association’s Chairman Livingstone Makori revealed that the Association is making numerous milestones that are aimed at assisting the graduands to get job opportunities and progressively grow their career path.
Among the steps made by the Association is the establishment of a system of linking former students with job opportunities through a career connection network.
‘ As former students, we are committed to ensuring that we continue to build a body of job creators and not job seekers by embracing an attitude of focus on solving problems and not just complaining’ Makori told the congregation.
The alumni leader also revealed that for the first time the Association has formed and supported a foundation that will mainly focus on the transformative measures of supporting the university and community at large.
He said the Prof Erastus Njoka Diplomacy Alumni Grants, is a body that will be focused on supporting education in the society through scholarships and collaborations with other stakeholders to ensure that the needs of the society are addressed.
‘As members, we all agreed to settle on the name Prof Erastus Njoka Diplomacy Alumni Grants for the simple fact that it is what the first Chuka University VC has stood for, Prof Njoka focused leadership skills has made Chuka the way it is today’ Makori added.
The University Vice-Chancellor Prof Erastus Njoka said all the graduands are well prepared and equipped with the required skills to face the current modern world of the job market. He added that the university management is committed to continuing with its corporate social responsibility activities that aim at uplifting the lives of the people in all corners of the county and Meru region at large.
‘ As a university will are doing anything possible to make our students and the community more comfortable, in this initiative we have already improved a 3km road and constructed a bridge across the Kinyua river to make the movement of our students and the neighboring community better.’ Prof Njoka said.
Other activities that the university has embarked on to help the community that is the establishment of Chuka University Radio to help in disseminating information to the public and use it as a training tool, an annual tree-planting program to mitigate climate change effects in the region, and lighting of Ndagani area to improve on security.
Chuka University is among the fastest-growing universities in the region whose impact has been felt by various stakeholders locally, regionally, and even internationally. Prof Njoka revealed partnership and collaborating with governments and other development partners in many corners of the world that include; Germany, China, Malaysia, South Africa in various activities that touch on the development of the university and the well-being of the society.
