Leaders threaten to stop LAPSETT project if residents are not compensated

Leaders from Northern Kenya have threatened to stop the LAPSSET project if residents are not compensated immediately for their land.

The leaders noted that the project was shrouded in mystery and they were afraid of being shortchanged adding that the project could easily be turned into another cash cow unless urgent steps are taken to address their plight key among them land compensation for the victims.

Isiolo Woman representative Rehema Jaldesa called on the project handlers to ensure that there is compensation for public land to be used in the project.

Lagdera MP Mohamed Hire accused the project handlers of failing to coordinate with local leaders and keeping residents in the dark about the project claims that have been refuted by Lapsset corporate affairs officer Benson Thuita.

Thuita said they were engaged in talks with the leaders from the County and that public participation was ongoing. He urged for calm noting that the compensation process would commence once talks with members of the public are completed.
