The national government took measures to solve land problems in Isiolo County that has lasted for decades.
After consultation and listening to leaders from the county, lands and planning cabinet secretary Farida Karoney executed the gazettement of private and community land in the county.
This comes at a time when many stakeholders are getting confused on the issue of land adjudication and development in various parts of the county.
In the gazette notice dated 10th January 2020 the cabinet secretary ordered the amendment of land adjudication exercise that was previously gazetted last year to accommodate the wishes of residents and other stakeholders in the county of Isiolo and beyond.
The gazette notice read in part ’In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3(1) of the land adjudication act, the cabinet secretary for lands and physical planning orders the land adjudication (application) amendment order f2019’
The amended schedule shows that all community land situated in Isiolo County with specific areas without including the earlier gazetted areas of the resort city, Lapsset route, military and security installations, natural resources, and Isiolo holding grounds.
Confusion and conflicts have always been witnessed in various parts of Isiolo County as a result of unclear direction from both the county and the national governments on the issues of planning and adjudication of land in the county.
Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti recently led the current and former leaders from the county to the Ministry of Lands headquarters of the land to seek an audience with the lands cabinet secretary Farida Karoney in efforts to look for a long-lasting solution to the problem of land in the county.
