Supreme Court upholds election of Embu Governor Martin Wambora

The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Embu Governor Martin Wambora ruling that the petition by former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti lacked merit.

In the ruling, the Supreme Court judges held the ruling by court of appeal noting that there was no basis for the nullification of Wambora’s win.

““No basis upon which to interfere with the Court of Appeal decision,” read the ruling.

Wambora’s election had been nullified by High Court Judge William Musyoka in February 2018. In the ruling, Justice Musyoka had noted that the vote recount and scrutiny had unearthed various irregularities that compromised the integrity of the process.

However the court of appeal overturned the decision ruling that the High Court had erred in invalidating Mr Wambora’s election as the petitioner Lenny Kivuti had failed to discharge burden of proof on the matter.

Speaking after the ruling, Wambora welcomed the decision from the apex court adding that the election petitions had negatively impacted on service delivery by the County administration as a lot of time was spent in courts.

“These election petitions have really slowed us down. Too much time has been spent in court. It is now time to get down to work and deliver for the people of Embu” Governor Wambora said.
