The University of Embu has initiated a plan to generate its own electricity that will be consumed by the institution as well as the neighbors. This was revealed by the University Chancellor Prof Musili Wambua who said the institution is in tandem with the growth of the economy and its time to embrace technology to address some issues facing it.
Addressing staff and students of the University during this year’s Chancellor’s state of the University address Prof Musili said it was of great importance for institutions of higher learning like the universities to play a leading role solving many problems that affect the society today.
The Chancellor challenged scholars to embrace innovative ways of finding solutions to issues that drain the scarce resources of institutions and even individuals.
Paying for electricity is one of the fixed costs that the University of Embu incurs every month.
‘We are called upon by the society to think big in matters of playing a key role in the building of the economy and making our lives better through the knowledge we acquire at the university’ Prof Musili said.
The University of Embu Vice-Chancellor Prof Daniel Mugendi expressed his commitment and that of the entire management to upscale service delivery at the university in order to make lives of the students at the institution even better.
The VC said the projects initiated at the university will be completed as per the plans despite the numerous challenges like little finances that the university is facing at the moment.
All the students at the university had an opportunity to directly address the Chancellor and ask him questions that were aimed at improving their well-being at the university.
Currently, many universities in the country are facing numerous challenges brought about by economic reasons, competition and government policies that have negatively affected the institutions.
