The National government has lauded the management of the University of Embu for their exemplary leadership.
Speaking during the ceremony at the university’s graduation pavilion, Chief Administrative Secretary Ministry of Education Prof. Collette Suda, lauded the university management for their exemplary leadership and urged them to maintain the goodwill.
“I am happy that the university of Embu is being managed well and that we haven’t had incidences of role conflict between the council and management and I want to encourage you to keep it that way” she said.
Suda called upon universities to use the limited resources available prudently and further asked them to be creative and innovative. She urged universities to focus on research because it is the core mandate of universities.
“It is important to make very good use of the limited resources that are available so that there is value for money and we have to be creative and innovative. Without research there is no University. We have to create knowledge and we have to use the knowledge created through research to transform our society.”Suda noted.
She advised universities to establish strong partnerships and establish more linkages to strengthen the existing ones.
“For universities to truly be the vehicles of socio-economic transformation, we must strengthen our universities industry linkages and make these partnerships more practical and geared towards providing solutions for the community” said Prof Collette.
The CAS further asked universities to think outside the box and start enterprises that can help them. She noted that the labour market is not expanding rapidly and thus the need for Universities to focus on strategic ventures.
She challenged public universities to carve out niches for themselves in order to reduce the level of duplication and overlaps in academic programs thus ensuring they have highly competitive and attractive academic programs that are market oriented.
“Start courses which are not found in every university. We are duplicating this programs far too much and flooding the market with the same type of professionals who are difficult to absorb in the labor market.” She added.
Suda asked Universities to align their programs with the Big Four Agenda in order to make a significant contribution to the country’s socio-economic development.
