The County government of Kitui in partnership with the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NAGRIP) is set to sink sixty sand dams and two mega dams in Kitui to address water scarcity, Deputy Governor Kanani has said.

Kitui Deputy Governor Wambua Kanani has said that the county government will partner with the National Government through NARIGP funded by the World Bank to sink more water projects for locals.

Speaking in Mwingi North during a developmental tour, Kanini said the Julius Malombe-led administration will sink two mega dams and construct 60 sand dams in each ward.

“The only way to address hunger and being self-reliant is through sinking more water projects,” he said.

Wambua also stated that farmers will be undergoing training on how better to venture into irrigation.

“The county government has separated agriculture, irrigation, and water ministries so that we can fully train our farmers how to be food secure without depending on rainfall,” Wambua said.

Kitui Agriculture Minister, Mbaya Kimwele called on locals to ensure they take care of water projects sunk in Kitui in order to ensure they benefit from the projects.

Kimwele said the county through the Governor is set to ensure locals are hunger-free by having more water projects in Kitui.”Ensure all water projects done are well taken care of so that locals benefit fully,” he added.
