February 11, 2019 Eastern Newspaper

Chuka Vikings impressive run in the Central Nationwide Rugby League continued with an impressive 16-5 victory over MKU Thika.

Cleon Kevin went over for the opening try with Joseph Kinyanjui adding a second try just before the break to put the Vikings on top of proceedings.

MKU managed their consolation try after the break before two penalties from Kevin Cleon secured the win for the Vikings.

In other matches, Kiambu RFC saw off a determined Meru RFC 10-7 to remain at the top of the standings.

Cyrus Mwangi scored a penalty for a 3-0 lead for Kiambu RFC at the break as they struggled to break down a resolute Meru side.

Meru RFC took the lead after the break with Simon Mwangi making the try after a fielding mistiming from the Kiambu RFC’s back three for a 7-3 lead.

Kiambu RFC capitalized on their numeric advantage after two Meru RFC players were sent to the bin with Chege picking a ball off Moinde at the breakdown, before fending off 3 tacklers to score off the right upright for the hard fought 10-7 final score.

There was drama as the match neared its end with Kiambu’s Peter karanja, John Ndirangu, Ian Mathenge, Charles Chege, and Collins Khaemba having a stint at the bin.

Embu RFC moved to second following a 24-0 walkover victory over Karatina RFC who failed to show up.

Kiambu RFC will now face the red hot Chuka Vikings in the next round of matches in what is expected to be a mouthwatering clash.
